Village Water Plant earns award
The Village of Perry Water Treatment Plant has received the 2016 Water System of the Year award from the New York Rural Water Association. Chief Operator Jeff Drain will receive the award at the organization's annual conference in May.
The association complimented employees Jeff Drain Will Stowell, Michael Mott and Ray Bzduch for their ability to maximize the return on ratepayers money by doing many upgrades and projects in house. The award also recognized the village water systems ability to meet sampling and reporting standards.
"We congratulate the Village on a well run system and for the support elected officials demonstrate to the professional operators who provide 'Quality on tap' to your customers said Pat Scalera, CEO of the New York Rural Water Association.
Village Tree Board receives Grant
The Village of Perry Tree Advisory Board received a New York State Urban Forestry Council Arbor Day Grant. The $920 grant will be used to buy nine trees for the village park. Planting will take place during the annual Clean Sweep event, Saturday May 21.
The Tree Board invites village residents to participate in the tree planting and other Clean Sweep activities.

Read Around Perry (RAP) Childrens Book Drive takes place Saturday , May 14,2016, from 9 AM to Noon. Drop off your gently used childrens books at the Center on Leicester St., Park St entrance. Donors receive a coupon for an ice cream cone at Sweet Sarah's for every 10 childrens books they donate to the community literacy program. Perry's Official Book, Henry Loves Hills, is available at Burlingham Books. The book is written by Perry native Patrick Brennan and loosely recounts an experience he had on a school bus ride during the Blizzard of '77. Dan Butler , Perry resident, illustrated the book. Perry's Official Book is a project of Read Around Perry and the Town of Perry Bicentennial Committee.
